In iOS 9 in 2015, Apple added the picture-in-picture function to the iPad for the first time. It took five years before Apple decided to introduce it into the iPhone product line. The reason may be that Apple believes that the size of the iPhone did not need to add this feature.
That same year, Apple released the 12.9-inch iPad Pro generation tablet computer. The huge screen made the iPad's picture-in-picture function a popular feature. Time has passed, the current iPhone has reached 6.5 inches, and the full-screen design allows the main interface to fit into a small window.
However, the oldest model supported by iOS 14 is the 2015 iPhone 6s series. Perhaps this is an Easter egg prepared by Apple for iPhone 6s series users after five years.
The iOS 14 test version has been pushed for nearly two months, and it has experienced five developer versions, but the domestic mainstream video platform App still does not support Apple's picture-in-picture function. After testing, currently only one video platform at station b supports the picture-in-picture function. Other applications that support the picture-in-picture function include Apple TV, NetFlix, Twitch, and its own Safari browser.
Activation method
As for the adaptation, it is only a matter of time. It is expected that each App will gradually adapt after the official version of iOS 14 is released. Before that, let’s take a look at how it is used.
Make sure that "Settings"-"General"-"Picture in Picture"-"Automatically open Picture in Picture" is turned on
Open a video platform that supports picture-in-picture
Play a video
Swipe up or tap the Home button to return to the home screen
The video will automatically play in a small window at the top of the screen
When the video is playing in the form of picture-in-picture, you can drag the play box to various positions on the screen, or you can temporarily hide the play box on both sides of the screen to the left or right. At this time, the video will still play sound.
If you don’t need the picture-in-picture function temporarily, you can tap the play box. The button in the upper left corner can close the picture-in-picture play box, and the button in the upper right corner can return to the original app of the video.
Picture-in-picture through Safari
In the case that the domestic mainstream video platform App still does not support picture-in-picture, we can also implement it through the Safari browser.
Open Tencent Video or other video platform websites in the iPhone Safari browser, open a video and enter full-screen playback, and then click the "Picture in Picture" button in the upper left corner, and the video will become a Picture in Picture playback. Open through Safari, it also supports functions such as dragging and hiding of picture-in-picture.
If you need the picture-in-picture function, it is a temporary compromise if the App is not adapted.
Usually, do you subconsciously use the "Picture in Picture" function? How much convenience will it bring you?
